Product Reviews for Zoom H4 Handy Recorder Quality: It seems flimsly. The front panel control switch feels flimsy and the side mounted menu switch is worse. In fact, the side rocker switch is very small and difficult to control. Value: To be fair, it's the least expensive such device available, so what do you expect? Desirability: Plastic looks and feels cheap as do all the buttons and controls. Sound: I'm very sorry to say that the sound is not acceptable with external mics--at least the three that I tried. The input gain is low and the pre amps have lots of noise. This is surprising since the sound from the internal mics is quite good. But if you want to use it with external mics, I would definately try it with your particular mic before buying! Ease of Use: It is invonvenient for field use--its intended purpose. Even the record levels must be set by going through menus and adjusting with a rocker switch. Support: In general, everything I've have from Samson is of good quality. The fact that they don't put their name on the product may be significant. It's sold under the "Zoom" product name. I don't feel this is up to the Samson standard by a very long shot! Overall: I'm returning it.
